Commissioner of the Northwest Territories

The Commissioner of the Northwest Territories is appointed by the Governor-in-Counci of Canada on the advice of the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development Canada.

The Commissioner exercises a function similar to that of a Lieutenant Governor, under a letter of instruction from the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Administrative support is provided to the Office of the Commissioner through the Department of the Executive.
